The Process

Reno Food & Drink Week operates under an invitation-only, performance-based model.

Participation is not purchased. It is earned.

If your establishment was not invited to participate in this year’s event, we understand that may feel disappointing. Non-selection does not reflect a lack of value, effort, or contribution to Reno’s food-and-drink community.

Participation is intentionally limited — and competitive by design.

Why Invitations Are Limited

During the evaluation period, food-and-drink establishments within the City of Reno are reviewed using a structured rubric that considers:

  • Service & Hospitality
  • Food & Drink Quality & Execution
  • Health Inspection Scores
  • Community Involvement

Many establishments perform well within this framework. Participation is intentionally limited each year to protect the integrity of the event, maintain operational excellence, and ensure high-quality guest experiences.

Not every high-performing establishment can be included.

Non-selection does not indicate failure. It reflects overall standing within a competitive field and the practical limits of a curated event.

How Evaluations Work

Establishments are evaluated over time through:

  • Firsthand visits and observation
  • Publicly available guest feedback
  • Washoe County health inspection data
  • Longer-term patterns in publicly available information

AI-assisted tools may be used to organize publicly available information for consistency and completeness. Final scoring and invitation decisions are made through a structured internal review process.

Individual scores, rankings, and internal evaluations are confidental and are not shared publicly or privately.

As with nationally recognized culinary distinctions, establishments do not apply for, negotiate, or appeal invitation decisions. The evaluation process is independent and standards-driven.

Looking Ahead

The evaluation cycle continues year-round. Future invitations reflect ongoing performance, consistency, and growth within an increasingly competitive landscape.

Reno’s culinary community continues to evolve. Improvements in service, execution, cleanliness, and community involvement are reflected in future evaluation rounds.

Additional curated opportunities may arise throughout the year. Eligibility is determined through the same standards-driven review process and may vary based on alignment, performance, and the objectives of each initiative.

In all cases, professionalism and alignment with the standards-driven framework of the event are foundational considerations when invitations are extended.

The Mission

Reno Food & Drink Week exists to uphold standards, recognize distinction, and elevate the overall culinary landscape of the City of Reno.
